How about a pet lost and found section for JCP residents?

I have rescued and reunited alot of dogs in my short time living in JCP.  Mostly I drive around with the dog in the back of my truck (secured!) or in it, or I post a notice on a sign or light pole.  These are very inefficient ways of helping reunite dogs and their owners. (Good luck catching a cat!)  I propose a section online for people to post pet lost and founds, where it will be prominently displayed, not buried in a sub-category. Also, possibly a small section in the sUN? This will encourage people to help round up the many strays I see running loose.  If people knew they had a quick and easy way to reach out to the community, they'd be more apt to do so.  No one wants to have to put up signs or drive around in hopes the owner is A) aware the dog is loose, B) cares, and C) is looking.  You'd be surprised.  I have hunted down an owner via a chance encounter with a mother and her kid.  The mother recognized the dog as belonging to her son's friend.  Upon return, the ungrateful owner responded, "yeah, he always gets out"  No thanks, no worry, no "gee, I hope it doesn't happen again".  Amazing.  With an online bulletin board, people could post immediately, and respond instantly.  Good hearted souls wouldn't have to keep the found dog for days, only to have to turn it in to a shelter.  The nearest shelter by the way, is quite a distance, and pretty well hidden. It's on a dirt road off of Philips going south off Racetrack.  There is a green sign that says something to the effect of "Pet Center" or something.  Is there anyone out there on this board that can facilitate this?  I see dogs loose every day, I can't get most, and I do wonder what happens to them.  I could post that I saw so and so type of dog in the vicinity of wherever.

jjones474 -- sounds like a terrific idea. As I look into how we can help promote the idea online and in the Sun, I think it would be a good idea for folks to respond to this blog in the meantime.

Thanks for your suggestion!

The friend of this dogs' owner contacted me and we were able to reunite dog and owner.  As most people use the internet first, this will be the new lost and found.  It's also the easiest way.

That's an excellent idea. Congratulations on finding the owner. I've lost pets in the past, so I know how traumatic the experience can be. I hope this helps a lot of people reunite with their animals.

Take a picture of your found dog and post it here with a blurb about where and when you found the dog and some kind of contact info. The owner could e-mail you from this page. I also keep up with the neighborhood dogs

Or if you don't have a camera, just a brief note about the animal. (I found a blue parotkeet one time)

 any way just a thought.

It's not a bad idea, but then you'd have to read through all the filler.  If there was a point and click up at top, "lost and found". people would know right where to go.  Plus, I don't like putting pictures up because there are a lot of unscrupulous people who would claim the dog as their own after "describing" the dog.  Trust me, it happens.

jjones, you are CORRECT! It does happen. There are many low life types that make a lot of money selling "pets" to labs for experiments. Animal shelters have to be especially wary of folks adopting pets for that very reason.

The reality is, there are many sick folks in this world.

just a general description of the animal and where you found it. My sign that I put out front says FOUND DOG with my phone # and people who are looking for a lost dog will call. So far I have only had to take one dog to the pound out of all the ones I have found. Had to keep one cause no one ever claimed her. Belle, Daisy, Sir, Bailey, Zeus, and a mixed asortment of full breeds all have stayed with me a couple of hours or days till someone claimed them, some like Belle are repeat offenders, but now I know where she lives and just take her home.
