Straight Talk
Straight Talk is a one-hour televised forum with a special focus for middle school students presented by the Jacksonville Jaguars Foundation, in partnership with the Jacksonville media, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida and the National Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy to be aired during National Teen Pregnancy Prevention month. The purpose of the program is to promote thoughtful discussion, improved parent/child communication and encourage responsible behavior. Why are we talking about it here in St. Johns? Well, each year, local schools produce and submit a creative and effective 30-second public service announcement relating to teen pregnancy and sexually-transmitted infections prevention, targeting the middle school population. The PSA finalists are chosen by a judging panel and these finalists PSAs are shown on the televised Straight Talk show. This year, a St. Johns high school was selected - Bartram Trail - had the honor of being selected. To view all of the finalist videos and vote for your favorite, log on to Jacksonville.com, keyword: Straight Talk. The voting ends on Thursday, but the final results won't be in for a couple of weeks. Congrats to the students at Bartram Trail - we'll let you know how they do!
