softball season
San Juan del Rio Catholic school girls softball team finished their season with a 9-1 record, and then went on to win the District 1 title beating out Epiphany Catholic school from Lake City with a 5-4 score. Valerie Larson scored the winning run in extra innings with a steal from 3rd to home. Danielle Soto was the game MVP.
estuary science camp
Friends of the Guana Tolomato Mantanzas (GTM) Research Reserve will host a five day Estuary Camp, July 28-Aug. 1 for students entering the fifth grade. The program is designed for students interested in learning about the plants, animals and environments around the estuary; includes classroom instruction, games, and experiments. The county school district will hold pre-registration for kindergartners and new students to the county and/or the public school system on May 14. Parents must register their children where they have been zoned for 2008-2009 school year. puppet show and craft hour
May 31, 10 to 11 a.m., the GTM Research Reserve will host a puppet show and craft hour featuring author and illustrator Jean Drayovitch who will present a puppet show featuring her new story Donny Dragonfly. The puppet show will be followed by a dragonfly craft activity for participants to take home. Ms. Drayovitch will also be available for a special book signing of Donny Dragonfly which will be available for purchase at the Research Reserve’s Nature Store. The event is open to the public, including large groups; however children ages 3 to 10 must be accompanied by a parent. Space is limited. Registration is required by contacting the GTM Research Reserve at (904) 823-4500. All materials for the event will be supplied. Admission to the Environmental Education Center is $2 for adults, $1 for children aged ten to 17 and children under ten are free.

The South Hampton Golf Club, 315 S. Registration is now open for the Bartram Trail Performing Arts Camp for ages six to 14. The theme is Across the Universe and the dates are July 7-11 and 14-18 at Bartram Trail High School, 7399 Longleaf Pine Parkway, St. Johns. Camp activities include dance, musical theatre, acting, hip-hop and much more. Campers receive lunch, two snacks and a camp t-shirt.
