High school students from Six countries are coming to our area July 2, 2008 through July 29, 2008 for a short 4-week stay through EF Educational Homestay Programs.           We are looking for loving families who are willing to share their hearts and homes with a young person from another country.  The students have studied English in school and are anxious to spend their summer learning first hand about American family life, culture and community.  This educational experience is also an incredible cultural opportunity for your family!           The students come fully insured and bring their own spending money.  We ask that our host families provide a bed for the student (they do not need to have their own room), meals, transportation to and from a designated bus stop in your area and provide a warm loving environment. The students will be occupied with English classes in the mornings at our course center and then they will enjoy fun activities in the afternoons.  The local EF staff will be available to the Host Families 24 hours a day; 7 days a week during the students stay.       Host Family members earn exciting travel opportunities.   High School students can earn Community Service hours per their schools requirements.    Training and orientation will be provided prior to the student’s arrival.

Limelight Theatre is bringing to its stage the hilarious one-man show titled, And One for Yourself. Written and performed by Derek Coghlan, there will be two performances of this not-to-be-missed original on Thursday (March 13) at 7:30 p.m. and on Saturday (March 15) at 7:30 p.m.  Tickets are $20. And One for Yourself consist of 7 monologues, with topics including: Potatoes, Hitch hiking, Mother's Day, The Problem with City Life and more. Derek Coghlan is a true Irishman.  Originally from Castlepollard, a small town in the middle of Ireland, he came to the U.S. in 1990 and found his way to Landrum Middle School in Ponte Vedra where he now teaches Language Arts. He was a founding member of the Atlantic Shakespeare Company and has been in several Limelight Theatre productions, including last years one-man show Repainting Larry Cooper, which was a sellout, so be sure not to miss this years show!

Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church located in World Golf Village held the annual Lenten Shrimp and Fish Fry for six Fridays and concludes today.  

Lunch will be available from 11 a.m.to 1 p.m. and Dinner from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Each meal consists of Fish, Shrimp or a Combination of both along with cole slaw, fries and hushpuppies.  Fish Sandwiches are available along with Drinks and Homemade Desserts.

The JCB League is Celebrating its "Spring Opening Day Ceremonies". Please join us. This event is open to the public. Expect lots of Food, Fun & Baseball! Today, Guana Tolomato Matanzas National Estuarine Research Reserve will host a children’s art class from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. for ages 11 to 14. This class will focus on beginning drawing of dragonflies and a dragonfly craft activity for students to take home. A short nature walk to observe the magnificence of the estuary will inspire the students to apply their discovery into a work of art in the classroom. Class will be taught by local artist Jean Drayovitch whose art murals decorate the walls of the Manatee Cafe` in St. Augustine. Cost is $45, payable in advance. All materials are supplied. This documentary is about how the family household has become one of the most ferocious environmental predators of our time.  In Garbage!, filmmaker Andrew Nisker skillfully and succinctly puts all of the information in one place – shifting the movement from melting glaciers and oil slicks to our neighborhoods and into our homes, so that average people can connect the dots between their actions and the environment and be inspired to change their polluting ways.  Everyday life under a microscope has never been so revealing.  By the end of this trashy odyssey you are truly inspired to revolutionize your lifestyle for the sake of future generations.  Come for the movie – Stay for the exhibits! The first 3.2 mile phase of the State Road 207 Rail to Trail will be celebrated with a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on Tuesday, March 25th. The ceremony will be held at 12:30 p.m. at the Trail Entrance off State Road 207 just west of Interstate 95.

The State Road 207 Rail to Trail is St. Johns County’s portion of a trail that will eventually link to several locations throughout the state of Florida, serving as both an alternative transportation corridor and a tourist destination. The historic trail corridor will link the St. Johns River to the Sea Loop that will ultimately connect Brevard, Volusia, Putnam, Flagler and St. Johns Counties.
