lacrosse camps
Register for boys and girls Black Bear lacrosse camps being held at Durbin Crossing Lacrosse Complex, St. Johns, June 16-19. Camps are for ages 6-18. Enjoy daily scrimmages, instructional sessions, and contests. Campers receive a reversible pinnie, water bottle, lanyard and other lacrosse collectibles. Cost is $245. sea turtle nesting season
St. Johns County is home to several species of endangered or threatened sea turtles that arrive every spring and summer to nest along our coastline. Residents and visitors of the county have a special opportunity and responsibility to protect these creatures and their vulnerable nesting and feeding grounds. *The beaches will be closed to vehicular traffic from 7:30 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. between May and October 31.
*All beach front properties are required to eliminate all non-compliant interior and exterior lights that are visible from the surface of the beach.
*Use trash receptacles to discard trash and debris when at the beach.
*Remove ruts and fill in holes left by vehicles and pedestrians.
*Do not leave chairs, umbrellas, or canopies on the beach overnight.
*Flashlights, fireworks, and open fires are prohibited.
*Trespassing into the dunes or Conservation Area is strictly prohibited.
*Refrain from using balloons for events; they fall into the ocean and can harm marine life.
*Leave only your footprints, providing the turtles with a safe and clean habitat to nest.
*Coastal residents, visitors, and beach goers are reminded to not disturb or handle any sea turtles, their eggs, or their nests. Endangered species are protected by County, State, and Federal Laws with fines up to $20,000.
*Support the County’s Habitat Conservation efforts and keep our beaches beautiful!

mother’s day fashion show
Today, 1 p.m. Come join the fun and see the latest in spring and summer fashions as River of Life United Methodist Church presents its inaugural “Mother’s Day Fashion Show” at Westminster Woods on Julington Creek, 25 State Road 13 in Fruit Cove. Fashion for models provided by Bealls, make up provided by Mary Kaye and Jewelry by Silpada. Admission is free! While admission is free, the Church, is accepting donations to benefit the United Methodist’s Children’s Home in Orlando and the building fund for the church’s new sanctuary. The Church is also accepting donations from local vendors and merchants to be used as door prizes. grand opening
Creekside Christian Church will celebrate a grand opening and its sixth year of worship on Mother's Day. The new 15,720 square-foot building is located at 92 Lifespring Way, off Race Track Road. There will be a special sermon that draws attention to the important role of mothers in the Bible. Worship service begins at 11 a.m. The non-denominational Christian church's mission is to take Christ to the community and the world by reaching up, reaching in and reaching out, both individually and collectively.

care for caregivers
Today, 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. the St. Johns County Council on Aging and ElderSource have partnered to present, “Caring For the Caregiver” at the Coastal Community Center, 180 Marine St., St. Augustine. Doors will open at 8 a.m. and a complimentary lunch will be provided. Keynote speaker is Carol D. O’Dell, author of the memoir, Mothering Mother. Adult day care will be provided but space is limited. recipes past and present
The Coastal Community Center invites you to share a meal with generations of the past and present through the keepsake cookbook, “Recipes of St. Augustine: Past & Present.” It includes 100 recipes contributed by The Players Community Center in Ponte Vedra and the Council on Aging at Trout Creek Park Pavilion. You will also find treasured family recipes along with culinary secrets from some of St. Augustine’s most popular dining establishments. Cost is $20. photography workshop
Today, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. the Guana Tolomato Matanzas Research Reserve will offer a digital nature photography class taught by photographer Daryl LaBello. The class will take place at the GTM Research Reserve Marineland office located at 9741 Oceanshore Blvd., St. Augustine FL (in the town of Marineland). This workshop is designed to give the beginning photographer an introduction to the fundamentals of photography with hands on practice in the River to Sea Preserve. Cost of the workshop is $125.
